2017 Leventhal Visiting Artist Program

Program Schedule -November 6-17, 2017

Oded Hirsch
Israeli filmmaker & photographer 
 
Oded was born and raised on Kibbutz Affkim. He has Bachelor of Design and Education from the NB School of Design in Israel and a Masters of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. The New York Times “Mesmerizing video art communicates urgency and dedication.” The Voice “his films are beguiling and they offer poignant visions, grand and small, of spiritual fulfillment.” 
Screenings for both programs Include:
Short Films: 50 Blue, Tochka, Nothing New, and Safe Passage (post production clips) his newest film focusing on disabled people struggling on a zodiac boat on the Mediterranean Sea.
Oded will discuss and screen his avant garde short films, followed by Q&A an light refreshments. 
Programs are free and open to the public.

Jim Burnstein
Director of Screen writing Program,
Department of Screen Art and Cultures, University of Michigan
Jim earned his BA and MA in English from the University of Michigan. After successfully writing a screenplay Renaissance Man that became a major Hollywood hit directed by Penny Marshall and starring Danny DeVito, he returned to his alma mater in 1995 to build one of America’s top screen writing programs.
His screen credits also include Love and Honor. Scripts in the works include Naked Shakespeare, The Palio, and The Matai, featuring American football in Samoa.
 
Thursday November 16
“Harold and Lillian: a Hollywood Love Story” is a film about the two storyboard artists that helped create many iconic movies. Jim will introduces the film and discuss the contributions that American Jews have made to the movie industry.

Screen writing Workshop for Cinema and TV
Join Professor Andy Roses’ Writing for Cinema & TV classes for a presentation by Professor Burnstein. He will discuss the process of screenwriting, show U of M student films, and share personal experinces in the industry.

Pitch Session” and Happy Hour
Jim and participants will chat informally at the happy hour (wine, beer, cheese plates, and veggie trays) & interact with participant that bring a few lines about their sreenplay idea. (max. 30 persons)
