OSU Film Student Ambassadors (FSA) are undergraduate students (rising juniors and seniors) enrolled as majors in Moving-Image Production or Film Studies, who volunteer to act as a link between students in the program, the department, university, and outside communities. FSAs use their own experiences to share what university life is like as a major in Film at Ohio State.

Sari

Sari Applefeld is an MIP Major, minoring in Screenwriting and Film Studies. Her animated short TXT (2020) won the Audience Choice Award at the 2021 Mad Royal Film Festival, and her documentary The Comic Collective (2019) was selected to screen at DigiEye 2020 (prior to its cancellation due to the pandemic). Sari has worked as an editor on several YouTube projects, including "The Care-a-Lot Club" for the Care Bears, a 4 episode Behind-the-Scenes of Holly Hobbie series, and 5 trailers for the CBeebies preschool show "Tinpo."

Outside of school, Sari has found a variety of internships and PA positions in animation, live action, social media and marketing, and development. She is the President of OSU’s Animation Club, and currently freelances with FredFilms assessing pitch submissions; she produces and manages @carebearsofficial on TikTok for Cloudco Entertainment; and she is an Extern with United Talent Agency.

Sari is drawn to all things bright, bold, and creative, and loves projects that find unique ways to stand out. As someone born in ‘99, Sari’s work often grapples with technology, and the impact social media and the internet has had on our relationships. She’s passionate about expanding animation’s audience and hopes to help bring new voices to the industry.

Deja Russell

Double Major: Moving-Image Production, Film Studies

Email: russell.1173@osu.edu

Deja Russell

Deja Russell is a 4th year double-majoring in Moving-Image Production and Film Studies. Her interests and passions lie in film production, specifically in the areas of directing, writing, editing, sound design, and special effects makeup. When she’s not studying film or involved in film production, she’s watching film and television on streaming platforms, singing on her loop machine, practicing her makeup skills, and reading YA novels. Outside of school, Deja participates in two student organizations as President of The Female Gaze Screening Club and PR and Marketing Chair of The African American Voices Gospel Choir. She also works as a student administrative assistant in The Department of French and Italian.

Deja’s passion for helping people is what gravitates her to the FSA program. As an African American female film student, she feels compelled to share her experiences with others. She believes film is amazing in its ability to entertain as well as spark discourse on important topics or social issues. She is most passionate about telling black stories through the lens of narrative, fairytale-like stories, and settings.

Jeremy Schwochow

Double Major: Moving-Image Production, Film Studies

Email: schwochow.7@osu.edu

Schwochow

Jeremy Schwochow is a fifth year Moving-Image Production and Film Studies double major. Jeremy finds himself most drawn to documentary and television, both as a viewer and filmmaker. His go-to watches are “Joe Pera Talks with You” and “Documentary Now,” both of which he would highly recommend! He has been involved in Mad Royal Film Society the last three years as a member and as a part of the e-board. The club works to build the student film community, collaborate on short films, host a film festival and make new friends.

Jeremy has also had the opportunity to work with local alumni as an Assistant Director on indie short films, which has been super exciting. He is a Film Student Ambassador to help students old and new learn more about where in the OSU Film community is the best fit for them!
