Alumna Monica White Ndounou Featured Contributor in American Theatre

Monica White Ndounou (PHD '07) is the featured contributor to the March issue of American Theatre.  The essay is titled “Finding Wakanda Within: Last Fall’s International Black Theatre Summit looked for Ways to Capitalize on Black Cultural Success.”  This event took place at Dartmouth College, where she is an associate professor of theatre. The 2018 summit—“Breaking New Ground Where We Stand”— was both an encounter with contemporary world events, achievements in the field, and a celebration of the first summit twenty years ago in 1998 entitled “On Golden Pond.” Ndounou is currently the president of the Black Theatre Association, a focus group of American Theatre in High Education (ATHE) and the founder of Pay-It-All-Forward All-Career Level Mentorship Program.  Her book Shaping the Future of African American Film: Color-coded Economics and the Story Behind the Numbers (Rutgers University Press, 2014) for which she received the 2016 Distinction Honor from the Southern Conference on African American Studies, Inc. (SCAASI).
