Wexner Center holds book event for Prof. Linda Mizejewski's Carrie Fisher publication
On January 26th, 2022, The Ohio State University Distinguished Professor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Film Studies faculty member, Prof. Linda Mizejewski, discussed her new book (edited with Tanya D. Zuk) on film star Carrie Fisher, the actress' iconic role as Star Wars’ Princess Leia, and the multifaceted nature of her career and public persona. The first full-length exploration of Fisher's career as an actress, writer, and advocate, Our Blessed Rebel Queen is a collection that examines such topics as merchandising, fans’ ownership of a public figure, the public’s expectation for older actresses, Fisher’s mental health advocacy, and more.
The Wexner Center for the Arts hosted the book event and signing for Prof. Mizejewski, which preceded a screening of the documentary Looking for Leia, by filmmaker Annalise Ophelian. Looking for Leia "tells the underrepresented stories of women and non-binary Star Wars fans who found identity, connection, and purpose in their love of the galaxy far, far away."
