From RIFF Call for Submissions: "In 1959, a group of Rochester film enthusiasts founded Movies on a Shoestring, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the art of film and bringing the work of creative, independent filmmakers to appreciative audiences. Our annual festival, The Rochester International Film Festival, has grown into one of the most enduring and prestigious venues for short films and videos. We also sponsor The Best of the Fest, a permanent collection of favorite films from past festivals.
Please join us for the First Annual Bollywood Film Festival at OSU, "Women in Bollywood: Tradition and Transition," Friday November 8 through Saturday, November 9. As India's cinematic influence spreads throughout the world, and as interest in the culture and art of India increases, we believe the time has come to anchor these broad currents in the OSU community. The film festival will provide us with a riveting and revealing window into how South Asian film represents women and women's roles and the changing ways in which women both on the Bollywood screen and behind it have told their stories.
